We currently partner with Emerge Global (also known as Emerge Lanka). Emerge works with female survivors of abuse and neglect, often at the hands of their own families, who have had the courage to speak out, to work to protect their younger siblings, and to create a safe reality for their own children. It empowers these women to develop the skills, resources and networks necessary to enact their own visions of change. We work directly with Emerge in Sri Lanka to provide these girls with opportunities in education (including private tutoring in subjects like reading and math), employment (garment training and voluntary employment), and empowerment (self-defense training).

The United Nations Population Fund estimates that at least one in every four women in Sri Lanka has been sexually abused by the time she reaches 18. It is also estimated that a woman is raped every 90 minutes, with 84% of rape victims being under the age of 18. An alarming 97% of abusers are known to their victim, and studies indicate that less than 2% of perpetrators are actually convicted. With two founders being natives of Sri Lanka and exposed directly to these realities, Alana Athletica was founded to give back, support, and empower others. The goal is to produce premium, high-quality products as a means for a greater purpose. Emerge shares the same core values as Alana Athletica - that women deserve to feel confident, supported, and empowered.

Each garment that we develop helps fund education, employment, and empowerment programs for abuse survivors, in partnership with Emerge Global and our production houses.

Our activewear is different in that the reason we exist is to elevate the lives of women. Our mission is to empower women at every touchpoint of our products - starting with the first stitch. From ethical manufacturing to partnerships with humanitarians, you can feel good about purchasing our products because when you do, you are making an [impact] in the lives of women across the globe.

At the moment, we are fully focused on expanding our collaboration and integration with Emerge Global, along with our production houses, and making them a key component of our production and business model. We are also currently exploring additional partnership opportunities.

Our primary material is a highly durable, flexible, comfortable 300-400 GSM poly/spandex blend interlock fabric that is luxuriously smooth inside and out. It has a very high modulus and recovery (meaning it stretches and returns to its shape extremely well for lasting support), is highly resistant to pilling, thinning and fading, and features all-over moisture-wicking and antimicrobial technology to stand up beautifully to your active lifestyle. We use a variety of secondary fabrics depending on the purpose of each product, but you can rest assured that they’re of the highest quality, wear after wear.

We suggest machine washing in cold water with similar colors and tumble dry low. Just like other advanced technical fabrics, our products perform best when washed and dried without the use of fabric softeners.

We work with small to medium-sized production houses only (25-50 total headcount).

Our production houses are currently located in the surrounding areas of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Our production houses employ women, giving them fair wages for their work, proper nutrition, and a humane work environment. Many of these women are working to support themselves and their families, and we ensure that they are able to do that, and treated with respect.

We evaluate manufacturing partners on three key dimensions:

1. Ethical production and working conditions
2. Ability to support and lead social impact programs within production house and community
3. Production capability and capacity

Each of these dimensions are thoroughly evaluated across multiple criteria (including but not limited to fair wages, safety standards, cleanliness, working conditions, training and development) by our team through extensive site visits and interviews, ultimately resulting in an evaluation report. She never compromises her principles; takes life slow and easy, but enjoys every minute. She is a natural leader, and no stranger to hard work. She symbolizes symmetry, harmony, and impact.

The island of Sri Lanka is in the form of a teardrop. Our logo is four single tear drops combined to make one central tear drop, because the strength of connection and support is more powerful than any single force.
